Our Team

At Epilepsy Awareness Ltd, our training is shaped by a unique combination of lived experience, clinical expertise and educational experience.

Our team includes Sally Gomersall, who founded Epilepsy Awareness Ltd in 1998, inspired by her own experience of living with uncontrolled temporal lobe epilepsy. Following successful curative epilepsy surgery in 1996, she dedicated her career to improving the lives of people living with epilepsy through education, advocacy and service improvement.

For more than 30 years, Sally has worked to improve awareness of epilepsy and reduce inequalities in access to specialist epilepsy care. She is widely recognised for her expertise in combining lived experience with a deep understanding of epilepsy services, policy and best practice.

Sally has served as a lay expert on the development of multiple National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) epilepsy guidelines and quality standards, including the original clinical guideline in 2004 and subsequent updates in 2012, 2022 and 2023. She also has co-authored a number of nationally recognised publications.

Alongside her work with NICE, Sally has presented nationally and internationally on epilepsy, bringing the unique perspective of someone who has experienced both uncontrolled epilepsy and seizure freedom following surgery.

Today, Sally continues to lead Epilepsy Awareness Ltd with the belief that knowledge saves lives. Her passion for education and advocacy remains at the heart of the company , helping professionals, families and organisations develop the confidence to provide safe, compassionate and effective support for people living with epilepsy.

Sally is taking a step away from facilitating the training as retirement beckons.  Taking Sally’s position is Alice, a practicing epilepsy clinical nurse specialist who helps ensure our training reflects current clinical guidance and best practice.

The team also includes Dr Graham Dunthorne, a doctor and experienced healthcare educator who develops and delivers educational programmes for healthcare professionals, students and patients.

Together, we combine lived experience, clinical expertise and educational excellence to create training that is practical, informative and engaging.
